Structural Stress Analysis of Hydraulic Cylinder subjected to Internal Pressure

The Client:

A company involved into manufacturing of hydraulic cylinders

Objective:

To simulate the internal pressure loading conditions to analyze the hydraulic cylinder subjected to deformation and stress using FEA Analysis

Client Expectations:

Client expected us to providethe assessment FEA Analysis report for the hydraulic cylinder with internal pressure loading conditions. Clients' expectations from our FEA Analysis team (FEA Analyst, FEA Consultant and FEA Analysis Lead) were to assess the FEA simulation results such as stress and deformation and conclude regarding the design specifications. The unsaid expectations from client were: Selection of appropriate FEA Analysis methodology, selection of proper mesh size for accurate FEA Analysis and a top quality FEA Analysis report.

FEA Analysis Project Challenges:

Since the project required us to study the design parameters for the hydraulic cylinder in detail and also to calculate them (cylinder bore, stroke, head thickness etc), project aspects of design and simulation were really challenging

FEA Analysis Project Deliverables:

The FEA Analysis results provided by Desserve Engineering provided an accurate analysis of pressure boundary condition for the hydraulic cylinder. The FEA Analysis deliverables included an FEA Analysis report including FEA project summary and further design improvements based upon findings from the FEA Analysis report.

FEA Analysis Project Benefits:

The project using FEA Analysis approach, saved the client overall of 8000 USD which includes the manpower and Testing resources required. Apart from the monetary benefits involved due to saved efforts for testing, the FEA Analysis project provided a base for further designing using computational methodology for simulation such as FEA and CFD Analysis. Since our FEA analyst, FEA consultant and FEA Analysis lead had to go through a lot of literature to study the design aspects of the hydraulic cylinder, the project imparted a lot of learning for our FEA Analysis project team.

FEA Analysis Project Hours:

  • FEA Analysis Model Preparation: 10 Hours
  • FEA Analysis Solving Time: 5 Hours
  • FEA Analysis Results Discussion: 3 Hours
  • FEA report preparation: 2 Hours

FEA Analysis Project Duration:

  • 3 days

FEA Analysis Project Team:

Customer Delight Experience:

The client expected us to complete the FEA Analysis project within 3 working day which we delivered on time hence delighting the customer by providing expected delivery for the FEA Analysis. Our FEA experts examined the project both from hydraulic cylinder domain and FEA Analysis aspects. Our FEA analyst had referred a lot of literature related to the Design of hydraulic cylinder and incorporated the learnings into the FEA Analysis report. The client was very happy thanks to the high quality FEA Analysis report which was possible due to the efforts of our FEA Analysis team consisting of FEA Consultant, FEA Analyst and FEA Analysis Lead.

Market Insights for Couplings:

The application of hydraulic cylinders is ever increasing with changed demographics demand and challenging designs. However, innovation driven product development will challenge the conservative design used by majority of the manufacturers. The current project leads towards a simulation driven product development process using FEA Analysis for hydraulic cylinder. In the coming years, as FEA Analysis becomes more adaptable and democratized, more and more companies doing product development for hydraulic cylinder will adhere to FEA Analysis to verify the product design by virtual testing.
