Design & Modeling of Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger


The Client:

A Small Medium Enterprise company based at Canada in the manufacturing of Heat Exchangers

Objective:

To design the heat exchanger for condensing purpose using evaporative cooling method and to provide an engineered 3D model with manufacturing drawings to the client

Client Expectations:

Client initially expected us to provide the calculation sheet for conceptual designing portion of the condenser. However, the client extended the project scope and provided the 3D modeling and manufacturing drawing creation work to us.

Project Challenges:

The project required us to understand the theory of heat transfer in detail and then it required our experts to work on the engineering portions of the project. It involves a lot of brainstorming for the designing sections like Flow arrangements, tube arrangements and baffle arrangements. It required our experts study the full engineering to provide detailed shop floor drawings with dimensions and tolerances fully defined.

Project Deliverables:

We provided a parametric study to compare the strengths of steel "I" beam to the composite structures. Sample input parameters were Ply thickness, spacing etc. Sample output parameters were shear strength, bending strength etc.

Project Benefits:

Design services provided by Desserve Engineering ensured that the calculations are done in line with all the reference standards and 3D modeling was done for the Heat Exchangers. Manufacturing drawings with details were provided to the client. Overall the project reduced the client's effort by a substantial amount as it saved about 2 weeks for the client which is estimated to be about 2500 USD in terms of cost.
